In 1983, luxury yacht seafarer Will Parker leads an American crew funded by millionaire Morgan Weld to defeat throughout the America's Mug race against an Australian crew. Determined to obtain the reward back, Will convinces Morgan to fund a speculative watercraft created by his ex-girlfriend Kate's brand-new sweetheart, Joe Heisler. When the watercraft is finished, the Americans head to Australia to redeem the cup.
